Something's not working right. Or something used to work and now it doesn't. Or a previous installer left something sketchy and you want an honest second opinion before your battery fries itself at the next boondock. This is the service for that.
What we actually do on a diagnostic visit
- Full visual inspection of existing wiring, fusing, grounding, connections
- Photographs of every penetration, junction, and suspicious-looking element — you get these photos whether or not you hire us to fix anything
- Instrument testing of every charge source (solar, alternator, shore, gen) under load — not just idle voltage
- Battery health assessment — capacity test if time permits, or at minimum a loaded voltage-drop evaluation
- Written report: what's wrong, what's mildly concerning, what's actually fine
The "inherited rig" case
Lots of our work is second-owner rigs where the previous owner or a previous installer did something we need to work around. We photograph what we find. We don't pretend we found something that isn't there. We show you the rat's nest honestly, we estimate what it'd take to clean up, and you decide.
Timelines
Diagnostic visit: half a day, sometimes a full day for larger rigs or multi-issue scenarios. Repair work after diagnostic is quoted separately once we know what we're dealing with.
Pricing
Diagnostic starts at a flat rate — ask when you reach out. If we end up doing the repair work too, the diagnostic fee is credited against the repair.
